Implement Efficient Warehouse Storage Solutions With Three Different Types Of Cantilever Racking Systems

April 27, 2020

Cantilever racking systems are one of the popular pallet racking systems. This racking system optimises the use of warehouses and storage units, and have put a halt to the traditional racking systems which were tedious and time-consuming. Cantilever racking systems cater to the storage needs of heavy, long and bulk items such as pipes, timber, carpeting equipment, metal sheeting etc. The storage space in your warehouse can be optimised well with the right types of cantilever racking systems. Read on to know three essential types of cantilever racking systems.

1. Light Duty Cantilever Rack

Introduction:

As the name itself speaks, light-duty cantilever racks are used for low weight items, i.e. around 500 pounds. However, for heavier goods, you can choose between two other types of racks available in this category, i.e. medium-duty (700-1000 pounds) and heavy-duty (5000-6000 pounds). Light Duty Cantilever Rack is the lowest priced cantilever racking and is generally galvanised or painted.

Weight Capacity:

It can hold a weight of five hundred pounds to six thousand pounds. The permissible load of the light-duty cantilever can reach 60kg/ arm for a capacity of 500 kg per column.

Storage Items:

This type of rack is used in light manufacturing facilities, garages and workshops to store items like wires, rods and machines. It can be used as a single or double-sided storage method.

2. I-Beam Cantilever Rack

Introduction:

The capacity of the I-Beam cantilever rack is higher than light-duty cantilever rack and can cater to the odd-shaped items. This system eliminates double handling, damage and wasted time due to difficult storage on the floor. It maximises the wall storage capacity, selectivity and density.

Weight Capacity:

This racking system can hold up to twenty thousand pounds.

Storage Items:

It is mostly used to store die-racks, building materials, sheet metal, spools of cable etc.

3. Structural Cantilever Rack

These are multi-level high-density storage systems designed to handle long length materials.

Structural cantilever racks are highly recommended for large bulk items. They can carry items heavier than the light beam and I-beam cantilever rack systems. Manufactured with a wide flange, this structural cantilever rack has a column to base connection. It is bolted using six to twelve bolts per side depending on the column/base size. This system is popular in warehouses in Australia.

Weight Capacity:

It can store around forty thousand pounds.

Storage Items:

This rack is used in industries that deal with metal roofing, re-bar, engineered wood products etc. to store long metal beams, wooden logs and other bulky construction materials.

There are three components, namely, upright, base, and arms, that form part of the racking system. The purpose of the rack matches the configuration of the components. The column height varies from 2500 mm to 6000 mm and the base length varies from 800 mm to 1500 mm.

Cantilever racking systems are considerably expensive compared to the other racks but are worth the money. It delivers the value for the price paid because there is ample space between the racks for handling the goods. Selecting the right size and type of cantilever racking system is the foremost thing to do while working on warehouse storage.
